It is all my fault video exhibited at The High Line Art in New York 2017
Katrín Inga Jónsdóttir Hjördísardóttir targets her audience with a personal discourse. In this video performance, she takes an emotional approach with an ambiguous tone. Through the footage she takes responsibility for all the “unhappiness, sadness, loneliness, hate” that has scarred the world. The effect that it causes upon the viewer is a unique experience, she uses the ambiguity of language to touch individual sensitivities that create an illusion of culpability and empathy. As the video proceeds towards its ending the perception of her message shifts when the concepts of “fighting for power, money, water, oil” are brought up. This brings relief to the viewer unveiling that the target of the artwork was perhaps someone else.
The videoIt Is All My Fault exhibited at The High Line Art in New York form September to November 2017 was supported by Icelandic Art Center, Icelandic Art Found and Muggur Icelandic Art grant.
